As part of our year-end massage performance evaluation, we re-visit various events that occurred throughout the year so we can improve and plan for the next. With all it’s economic turmoil, 2011 has been a good year for massage therapy, and Tranquility Massage has undergone growth in some expected and unexpected ways. In both cases, its always wise to review your successes (and, yes, failures) to realize the best you can be. In keeping with this sometimes painful management exercise, we would like to reflect on the highlights of 2011.
Couple’s massage was a year-round hit. Normally most popular during the spring and summer months, our couple’s massage business remained very popular throughout the year – particularly in vacation and resort spots such as Anaheim, Newport Beach, Dana Point, Laguna Beach, Long Beach, and several other spots in Orange and Los Angeles Counties. Much of this was at hotels and inns in these areas, and many clients were either new or returning from out of town. Couple’s massage is a superb way to enjoy togetherness when vacationing, but it wasn’t only vacations these travelers were on. Many were here on business or for personal non-vacation reasons. One thing’s for sure – 2011 didn’t put a damper on the desire for togetherness!
Our chair massage services were particularly in demand this year, both for conventions and other business related events, and for regular business wellness programs as well. Anaheim, Irvine, and Los Angeles were the top performers in these areas, and we even got requests for our chair massage therapy services at some types of businesses we hadn’t expected. Chair massage is particularly effective for administering performance boosting massage therapy in professional situations where a table massage may not be feasible. On the convention side, vendors at several events this year utilized Tranquility Massage to capture a larger number of visitors at their exhibits, and we even had a speaker at one week-long seminar in Anaheim utilize Tranquility Massage’s in-room hotel massage therapy service to keep him conditioned for his marathon presentation.
During the summer vacation months, we had a very large demand for our poolside massage therapy services for various professional and family events. Several in Yorba Linda, Coto de Caza, Huntington Beach, Balboa, and one right on the beach in Dana Point. Tranquility Massage usually sets up a nice shady tent with suitable relaxing music (some like Hawaiian, others reggae – it’s all client’s preference) and a full massage table – often two or more depending on the size of the event. Clients merely hop on in their suits, enjoy a relaxing massage in a resort setting and get their suntan oil or sunscreen applied all at once. Need more after a dip in the pool? No problem! Massage therapists are a definite hit at these types of events, and we always look forward to adding to the fun and enjoyment.
Our sports massage therapy and pregnancy massage therapy services also saw spikes in the summer months, particularly in Rancho Cucamonga, Riverside, Irvine, Mission Viejo, and Yorba Linda. Sports massage therapy is normally utilized by professional athletes for maintaining peak physical conditioning and athletic performance, but it also sees a large following with very athletic people from all walks of life. From professional football and baseball players, to surfers, triathletes, and even martial arts instructors, Tranquility Massage has been fortunate to work with wide variety of clients in this area this year. Pregnancy massage therapy was also up this year, due in large part to referrals from past clients to newly expecting family members – with one client in Laguna Hills returning with her second pregnancy! Its definitely good to see that pregnancies and interest in healthy moms and babies is in good standing.
We’ve added new massage therapists in Riverside, Corona, Rancho Cucamonga, San Dimas, and several other spots in Los Angeles and Riverside counties to better serve clients in those areas. These therapists are professionals in various modalities ranging from Swedish and deep tissue massage therapy to more specialized pregnancy massage and medical massage therapy, and all are dedicated to providing our clients with the utmost in relaxing, rejuvenating, and rewarding mobile massage therapy. We’re excited and grateful to have them working with us!
As we reflect on 2011 and plan for 2012, we would also like to thank all of our clients, suppliers, staff, and massage therapists for all of your professionalism, effort, and support, and we look forward to continuing our growth and YOUR health in the New Year!
For a special treat with the family this evening, we attended the Holiday Organ Spectacular at the beautiful Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa. I definitely recommend everyone take an opportunity to experience this Orange County culture staple at least once – particularly when the mood is so peaceful. If you’ve never heard a pipe organ in the hands of a master, you’d be amazed at just how precise and gentle such a massive instrument can be.
While this was decidedly not a massage therapy event, I couldn’t help but be drawn to a conversation between two ladies during intermission. They were talking about how much the music relaxed them, and how the music would be great with a massage. As the conversation progressed, the first related how she’d recently visited a spa for a massage, and after a sauna treatment and shower afterward, had almost passed out during her drive home. The second said she’d received a gift of a spa visit from her husband, but couldn’t find the time to make the appointment fit her schedule. Perhaps it makes me a bad businessman, but I resisted the urge for a shameless plug in favor of preserving the holiday experience we’d all gone for.
Still, it made me think how universal the love of massage therapy is yet how difficult many find it to incorporate into their lives. It really struck me the other day when I was speaking with a new client about a holiday party she hired us for. She told me she never knew you could get massage therapy at home, and she would have hired us years ago if she knew. Without knowing more about these two ladies, I thought about the massage therapists and clients we have in Costa Mesa, Newport Beach, and the Balboa area – throughout Orange County for that matter – and was trying to think of a way to connect more of them.
Many ideas came to mind (some of which I’ll have to remember after the remarkable performance we saw tonight wears off), but one thing is certain – we have much to do in the coming year. Many people who would enjoy the peace and tranquility of massage therapy are delaying it because they simply don’t know they don’t have to.
As the 2011 holiday season fast approaches, businesses and families alike are marking the occasion with a wide variety of gatherings, and Tranquility Massage has been fortunate to be invited to provide mobile massage therapy at several of them. This year we’ve provided holiday cheer with soothing massage therapy complimented by a selection of relaxing classic holiday music and scents.
Holiday parties are the norm at many businesses this time of year, and though we’ve seen some reductions due to the prevailing economic environment, we’re also seen some very creative adaptations. A small post-production company in Irvine, CA had Tranquility Massage provide employees with relaxing chair massage therapy at their holiday soiree. Apparently the employees were presented with a budget for the holiday party and elected to host it at the company’s main office. Catering and music were provided on-site, and the staff did a remarkable job of transforming the venue into a warm holiday retreat. The company purchases Tranquility Massage gift certificates for the employees each holiday season, leaving the individuals free to take advantage of their massage therapy gift anytime throughout the year they need it most.
A small but busy group of legal professionals dealing with a difficult deadline in Newport Beach pooled their resources and gifted an on-site massage for one of their very busy managing partners. Tranquility Massage provided in-office clothed table massage with relaxing holiday music, enabling her to relax and rejuvenate without a large dent in her schedule.
Family holiday events are also finding massage therapy beneficial. A young expecting couple in Yorba Linda spent long hours preparing for a combination house warming-baby shower-Christmas gathering. Both are very grateful for the blessings they’ve received this year, and have worked very hard to share their excitement with their family. Recognizing the preparations were taking a toll, the husband hired Tranquility Massage mobile massage therapists to provide soothing pregnancy massage to his expecting wife. The service was such a hit, the family brought us back to provide her with massage therapy during the weekend-long event, and even purchased gift certificates to see her through her term, as well as providing post-natal massage therapy to keep her comfortable and relaxed after the birth (although we’re fairly certain the husband will need a massage or two before they settle-in with a new baby).
Tranquility Massage has been blessed with many wonderful opportunities throughout 2011 to bring peace, comfort, health, and relaxation to many, many people, and we are truly grateful for each and every one. This year we have been fortunate add new clients and massage therapists in Orange County, Los Angeles, and now in Riverside County. In the year to come, we look forward to continuing our relationship with our many valuable clients, massage therapists, and friends, and hope to become a healthy, caring, and restful part of your life as well.
Happiest and healthiest holiday wishes from all of us at Tranquility Massage!
Despite all the news about the federal budget and stock market troubles, we’re happy to report our mobile massage therapy is in high demand this summer! We’re very grateful for all the compliments we’ve received over the past few weeks, and that so many people get so much peace, health, and satisfaction from Tranquility Massage. Today, we’d like to share a story from the field that warmed our hearts (sorry, no summer pun intended!).
A family of 5 from northern California stayed at the Anaheim resort last week. They had their elderly father with them (VERY heartwarming to see a family make the effort to include him!), and after a day of activity at Disneyland and taking turns caring for him, they were quite exhausted – even the 13 year old. Grandpa was having problems with his legs, knees, and feet, and regularly suffered from RLS, or “restless leg syndrome” (more on RLS here) which frequently kept him up at night.
We got a call from them (we’ll get a testimonial from them soon) later in the evening and were able to get a massage therapist to their hotel within the hour. They did their homework, and asked for references before they agreed to use us, and we were able to give them enough to satisfy their concerns.
Grandpa was the happy recipient of 90 minutes of soothing geriatric massage with some deep tissue modifications for his legs and feet. He fell asleep on the massage table, and was gently led straight to bed after his massage therapy. We got a call from grandpa the following day – he said he hadn’t slept so well in weeks, and that was WITHOUT his pain medication! We spoke with his daughter to make sure he speaks with his doctor about the possibility of massage therapy as an alternative to the medications he’s taking, and will help them locate a bay-area massage therapist in the future. He is a very sweet gentleman and we were very pleased to help make him comfortable with us in Orange County.
